Colors of life 9 Years, 7 Months ago
I saw that Cathy has decided to work with less color. I very briefly skimmed something she said about difficulties and color. So I thought I'd post this piece, Colors of life.

I created this acrylic painting when in a deep depressive phase.

This acrylic painting depicts the truth that life after a depressive interlude can be as vibrant and wonderful as before.
Although at times it feels as if I am engulfed and drowning in the black hole of this illness, I know depression is only part of my life.
There are ups and downs and perhaps I see colors of the world with greater clarity because of the experience of the dark times.

I like the rhythm of this piece. Talking of taking color out of my next series, I just sold a very colorful painting! Haha! Now what?

I will say it again, because I am new here and dont know if my quick post went through, just saying a friendly hello and taking a big breath of the color here.

to me Color is Life
Black and White is a statement of life
And transparency, is something sometimes not so
interesting, but sometimes necessary.

Lucky people that portray these feelings on canvas!

I like your way of thinking mooaany. I like color, don't get me wrong, it's just that as an artist, I feel like I want to explore something different. Because I work with textures, I'd like those to stand out more than the color. I'm sure I'll come back to doing colorful paintings again. I know how uplifting colors can be.

Oh yes, I think exploration is such a big part of it, and as you explore you learn internal and external information about yourself, if self expression is what you are after.

My brother paints only for himself, but he shared a series he did of faces only in black and white and it was stunning.

It seems to me that you spend more time examining black and white and it is therefore a more mental reaction then an instantaneous emotional reaction. When I used to do a lot of photography during the 35mm pre digital days, I shot primarily in black and white. I could create drama in the dark room,

good for a drama queen like me!

Haha! I love black and white because it shows up the textures more. It plays with the negative spaces and when you strip the color, it plays with your judgment of what you're looking at.

For example, if you had a still life and sprayed it all white, your eyes would struggle to know what they were looking at. It's this kind of effect I want to explore with my next series.
