Re: Formal Art Training or Self Taught 9 Years, 2 Months ago
Only just read this thread, I think it is a shame that the person who started this thread has not been back recently. There are so many lovely images on this site it is truly inspirational.

I started painting and used Flickr as a way of discovering if anyone liked the art that I was doing. The response at times is really rather surprising, and encourages me to keep on painting. There are many art groups on Flickr it is a useful place to view images of many types.

Best wishes Blu

I think you can learn a lot simply by observing and looking at other work. It's not only inspirational but you can often see how something is achieved.

Marilyn is a friend of mine on Facebook so I will tell her her thread has taken off. Maybe she just forgot about it.

I so agree with this! I often try to 'remember' to place pictures on Flickr to get some feedback and also belong to an encaustic group on line where I post pictures for feedback from those who know a lot more than I do! It does help so much and encourages me to continue.

Thanks for the reminder, Cathy! It's so interesting to read through everyone's personal experiences about their art. As I said before, I've always hesitated to call myself an "artist", because I've had absolutely no training.......but now I think "art from the heart" is also very important. Maybe I have the "art gene" that Cat mentioned!

Wow there is so much talent here!! It's very inspiring, everyone!

I think when you think creatively, in any way, then this for me is the definition of an artist. I consider Joe an artist, he doesn't paint or sculpt or any of the usual disciplines but he has a very creative mind. I definitely think you're a creative soul Marilyn so you should be proud to call yourself an artist.

I am self-taught, I feel I tend to learn better on my own. I've thought about taking a class before but just haven't done it.
