Yep, I say it time and time again, personal contact is what it's all about.

I am brand new at this and have stayed away from the craft festivals as a seller because it just seems like so much physical work and so much money and time to invest. I wish our town had an open studio weekend. Have any of you done the open studio thing?

For the reason I said in my last post, personal contact is what it's all about, being in contact with the public is vital when selling something original. I have done many open studio days in the days when I didn't live in such a remote place. I always made sales. People also love to come and see how artists work and where.

I once also did a project with a local theater where we set up our studios in the theater as they would be near enough and we sat there working. It was a great success. People loved it.

The theater idea sounds great! We have a few old theaters around here that are used for music and movies........hmm. I like that idea, sounds fun.
Thanks!

I'm still trying to figure this one out myself. In theory, I want to sell online so that I can afford to participate in festivals and such...the reality is that I haven't been very successful with it.

I agree about festivals and craft shows. I used to do them when I was younger, Mall shows with the art guild were the most succesful for me. Then the Art Guild decided the mall was charging too much, and I got busy with family and dropped out.
At this point in my life, the shear work involved in an outdoor festival would make it hard for me. My mobility is limited, and so are my finances. There is a festival scheduled for next month that is very near where I live, but I will not be going for the simple reason that the entrance fee is too high. I am sure I would get help from my family with the set up and watching my booth, but with no garantee that anything would sell, I cannot risk just losing my booth fee.
So there we are. I am running out of wall space. lol
My grandson wanted to buy 2 paintings from me, but I will not charge him. I told him that if he is sure he wants one or two, it`ll be for a bd or Christmas.
My family has always been happy to have my paintings, which is flattering, but doesn`t pay for new art supplies.
