I love the brocades I find for corsets. There's so many color and pattern combinations and they feel so silky and smooth.

When I was an interior designer, my favorite fabrics were linens and silks. My seamstress didn't like working with silk very much and used to complain a lot! lol

I think that might be impossible to answer! I love working with my velvets...they are just so gorgeous and lush, but they dont work for everything! LInens are nice too, but I really love silk. I also like a nice thin tightly woven wool for certain instances. Truthfully about the only thing I dont really care for is synthetics!

You make a good point there Diane. I hate synthetics or anything that makes out to be something it's not! I don't work much with fabrics now and I miss that. I used to spend hours on the Kings Road in London finding samples to show clients and to add to my concept boards. It was a lot of fun.

Oh I love nothing better than playing with a big pile of fabrics. I love painting and sketching and all the other aspects of art...but I would be lost witout my fabrics!

I now have about a hundred rolls of fabric stashed in our tiny apartment and a large collection of vintage lace and trims.

I feel justified in hoarding this unseemly quantity as it relates to my "day job" (couture)! However I admit to a serious silk addiction. Had a love affair with this fiber since I was a kid, and can always squeeze a couple more yards on a roll under the bed!!!

I love the way silk feels when I work with it-easy to manipulate, soft weaves can be squeezed or stretched and crispy ones fold well and keep a lovely shape. I am also a big fan of linen, but sadly most Californians have an irrational dislike for it, but I think they don't have an iron and don't appreciate it's intrinsic loveliness-the slight crinkle is part of the appeal and it feels so good in hot weather.

On a last note regarding synthetics: I tell my clients quite directly that I will not work with those nasty fabrics!
