Abstraction - What else can I do? 9 Years, 4 Months ago
In my series 'stripped naked' I'm taking elements away. In this one I'm also abstracting the subject. I feel it's too 'naked' and the image isn't that interesting. What else can I do to it? Should I just bin it. I don't mind, just say.

Why bin it? If you put something of yourself into it I feel it is art worth keeping. However IMO The central piece would look good without the seed shapes and the seed shapes would look good alone too.

I 'bin' a lot of my works. When I say 'bin', I tend to work over them. For me it's all about having a go and being on the journey, not necessarily to have something at the end of it.

So what you're saying Blu is that I could simplify it even more. Good idea, thanks!

choose an element to highlight, my choice would probably be the seeds. make them bolder to add more depth. I have something of an obsession with vivid colour so I'd probably 'jazz up' the red...but that's me and my personal taste, i'm discovering through sharing images on the net that my gut reaction to a piece is sometimes much different to someone else's

Thanks sand. As I'm trying something different, it's really good to have others' opinions. I've been trying to tone down my colors so I'm not sure I want to add more. I think it's my state of mind right now, I don't feel very 'colorful', my life has little color so it's being reflected in what I'm painting. I agree about highlighting an element, that's a really good idea. I need to work on this a bit more.

Ah I know what you mean about not feeling very colourful colour therapy recommends using colour to help...I've always used bright colours in my art, even before the fibro hit...now I realize it was probably a reaction to my low seratonin levels...I also noticed in the last few years that my wardrobe was all blacks, greys, navy and purple...so I've made a real effort since to buy bright clothes! Must admit it does help...doesn't mean that I don't like monochrome or subtle colours effects in others work it has to reflect the artist after all, hope your muse strikes when you next work on it, best of luck
