Derwent are one of the few other brands I've tried and they are OK but I just get on better with the Faber Castell. Each to their own, I reckon it's pretty subjective and what may suit me may not you.

If you lend someone £20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

Thanks Peter. I will persevere with these for a while. It's not like I intend to sell these drawings so it's just for me to practice.

Even though I'm using a sheet of paper to cover my work and I'm trying not to touch the paper, I'm still finding that I'm getting finger marks on the paper. How do you avoid that? I'm thinking I'll have to wear gloves! lol

Not sure what to suggest, a sheet of paper to rest my hand is what I do too. I do have a piece of wood nailed across the bottom of my drawing board to support my wrist a bit (I busted both arms in a motorcycle accident in 2005 and still get aches) perhaps that helps. Perhaps you're just a mucky puppy!

I do clean up as I go with the putty rubber though. You have to be a bit careful with this as it can leave a faint film of rubber on the surface which won't show up until you apply some pencil and you get a nasty smudge which can't be removed.

Yes, that's what's been happening! I'm trying to be so bloomin careful and it's still happening. You're probably right and I am just a mucky pup! lol

Busting both your arms can't have been much fun! You must have been so fed up not being able to do your art.

Many, many other things can't be done with 2 broken arms, one in particular meant I was a very mucky puppy too! My step daughter had a broken ankle at the time too, so we carried out a lot of tasks between us (not all)

Oh good grief! Too much information! Haha! Oh dear, seriously though, it must have been a terrible time. I worked in a disabled home and had to help with many things. It was the lack of dignity people had that really affected me. I can't imagine what it must feel like. Thank goodness that's all behind you! (or should I rephrase that).
