Re:How to draw an Eye 9 Years, 3 Months ago
How wonderful to grow up with such creative and talented parents.I think we may have had similar upbringings, as my parents also taught me many different skills (cement mixing is still one of my favorites). I too like to""mix it up" as the saying goes. I need to get away from couture, which I can do during the quiet months of winter, and do something different or I get very burned out or stale. I don't have a bricks and mortar shop and few overheads so I can just about manage financially and thus I feel I have great creative freedom. It's a compromise isn't it. I do admire those who never deviate from their chosen craft, but I've always wanted to try new things. In another life I really want to be a shoe designer!

Karin, you and I are very similar. I also have this part of me that thinks I'm a jack of all trades and master of none. If only I could just concentrate and get superb at one thing! I can't do it though, I would go round the twist with boredom. It's such a discipline to be able to do it. A shoe designer is cool!

Oh, you two have just described how I feel, too!. I have always had a genuine interest in lots of different aspects of life, however, so my creative outlet is no different and I too would go mad just creating the same style all the time!

Going off at a tangent-I'm always amazed at your command of English and your use of idioms and colloquialisms!
As for being master of none, I believe we all feel were professionals at the very least-nothing immodest about that.

I always tell C-after the nuclear holocaust I'm going to survive quite nicely with all the different skills I've picked up along the way!

Ha! You've got a point! Many skills has had us renovating the entire house without having to get any outside help. Saved a tidy sum!

As for my english, I lived in the UK for 23 years, had a legal secretarial temping agency for 12 years and ran an interior design consultancy for 9 years. My work as a legal secretary gave me a very good grounding in the english language as I spent much time in court rooms taking notes. Now that I have to speak French as well, I can't actually speak any language properly! I have Joe in stitches sometimes because I get a word ever so slightly wrong. lol
