Photographing Jewellery 9 Years, 2 Months ago
Hello everyone,

I should probably start by saying that I'm not a photographer. I used to be alright with a manual slr, but digitals are so clever these days I've kind of lost the knack.

Anyway what I was wondering is, do any of you have any tips for taking pics of jewellery? We try to photograph our silver pieces and so on, but they never look as good on 'film' as they do in real life. We've used lighting, messed with settings, but they still don't look great.

I've found that the pics actually show up marks that the human eye can't see, so not sure how to get round that one.

Anyway any help would be great

Abi

Someone posted how they made a light box to photography their jewelry in this section. Here's the link www.totalartsoul.com/forum/10-photograph...are-really-good.html

It's got photos so you can see exactly.

You're welcome. I think I will make one of those light boxes for my home decorations. I struggle to get the lighting right so I hope this may solve it.

The light-box is a wonderful tool and I use it all the time now.

I particularly like how macro photography can show up all the imperfections as in chainmaille it allows me to show how good the individual closures are and the lack of tool marks.

So I tend to use traditional distancing to show the jewellery as the eye sees it and then a close up to show workmanship.
